Mint Bushes, or Prostanthera, are tougher and more adaptable than their delicate flowers suggest. At Sylvaterre, established Mint Bushes have grown in full sun, full shade, frost, dry exposed positions, grey-water irrigated beds, and seasonal wet areas.

Some stay compact, while others become large shrubs. Some are aromatic, while others have little scent. Some grow quickly almost anywhere, while rare species may be slower and more particular. The key is choosing the right Mint Bush for your garden and giving it time to establish.

Why Grow Mint Bushes?

Mint Bushes bring flowers, foliage, wildlife value, and true Australian character into the garden. Many produce masses of purple, mauve, pink, white, or blue-toned flowers, often attracting native bees, butterflies, hoverflies, beetles, and other pollinating insects.

At Sylvaterre, Red-rumped Parrots eat the seeds of Prostanthera nivea, and its flowers are visited by pollinating insects in remarkable numbers.

Choosing a Mint Bush

Use individual product descriptions to choose the best species for your garden. Mint Bushes may suit sun, shade, pots, screens, dry gardens, damp areas, or habitat plantings depending on the species.
